Positive Wrap-Up of Bonn Negotiations

Taken from the Adopt a Negotiator Website
The most common question I’ve been asked since returning to Halifax from the Bonn climate talks, which ended last Friday, is, “What was the most inspirational thing that happened?”
The United Kingdom’s emissions are dropping year by year. China has committed $600 billion into green technology. There were 100 passionate [...]

FINALLY: Copenhagen Climate Treaty out!

Download here the new “Copenhagen Climate Treaty”.
The only downside to this, it is not (yet) adopted by any legal body yet any country delegation. It is a proposal by 50 NGOs. The good thing: they made a legal text out of it as well and advice the delegations to “Copy&Paste” it into their proposals.
Way to [...]

Math in Japan is different!

The japanese Prime Minister Aso is fighting against attacks from around the world due to the very weak targets Japan is willing to take in a Copenhagen Agreement in December. Arguing that taking a new baseline year (2005 instead of the generally accepted 1990-level) is something more “about the future”. According to this level, Japan [...]

- But there is a short-fall in terms of what we need: e.g. targets on financing.
- [...]

Where to put a comma?

The AWG-LCA is currently talking on the “Enhanced action on Adaptatione”. The Chair was telling the delegates waht submission have been made After discussion, a five minutes break (actually 15min) was held and now they type the submission – as delegations read them out loud – on a computer screened big on the stage. Sounds [...]

MEF takes over UNFCCC

According to “intelligence” (yes, they call it so!), the Major Economies Forum, hosted by Barack Obama, is becoming a rivalry event to the UNFCCC-process in which every country – independent of its GDP – has one vote. Obama said he wants a new version of the MEF after Pres. Bush tried to act against the [...]

Brave Southerners Blocked by Annex?

Just a second ago, Turkey was speaking out for a new Annex C in the revised Kyoto Protocol because some Parties might want to move up and take on more ambitious targets but cannot do so within the existing framework. South Africa and Gambia said that this is an issue for the other Working Group [...]
