Taiwan: more Prestige than Substance?
Global Green New Deal: Taiwan passed a bill which would quadrouple the amount of renewable energy nationwide AND spur investment worth almost a billion US$. Sounds great? Well, it’s a plan for the next 20 years. The country of great inventions should do faster I think!
Further, Taiwan thinks about reducing it’s emissions to 2008 (yes, 2008!) levels by 2016 (!!!) and to 2000 levels by 2025 which I find – without knowing the numbers – quiete astonishing. I China would have proposed it, the global deal in Copenhagen would have been saved. If South Korea would have proposed it, it would have been bold. But Taiwan is an industrialised country (ok, I was never there, but I know it from TV – looks quite great that country!) and should behave like one. I seriously hope they’re going to refurbish these aims.
